A high school camp was held in Sarajevo between 25 – 30 July 2019, attended by 16 young people from different cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The camp was organized as part of the Rischio Minore project, which is being implemented in cooperation with Caritas of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Consorzio Leonardo from Italy.
During the camp, young people were learning about topics that were important for their future and further engagement in the civilian sector. Participants had the opportunity to meet the city through tours and by the searching for Sarajevo's most important places. Through interactive and engaging workshops, young people also got to know each other, shared ideas and experiences, and learned about activism and the importance of being involved in civil society.
The first activities and workshops that coaches and facilitators worked with young people were non-violent communication, sign language and non-verbal communication, active listening and conflict transformation.
The continuation of the activities was related to identity and adolescence and the young people, through these topics, were concerned with discovering themselves and the world around them. They also talked about the culture, social networks and addictions of today, and the life habits they create as they grow up. All of the above activities were imbued with quality exercises, tasks and examples from daily life that encourage participants to think and see things from different perspectives.
After learning about the importance of activism, young people had the opportunity to discuss and learn the essentials of entrepreneurship and ultimately peacebuilding. All these things are some of the key elements needed for the quality growth and development of young people as well as the motivation for their active involvement in their own local communities.
Our member and facilitator, Dajana Umicevic, for this camp said: “We have worked out with the youth the concept of peacebuilding, discussed the ways and their role in peacebuilding, and defined the concept of a peacebuilding point that involves different segments so that peace can be successfully implemented in to a society such as BiH, that is, the society in which they live and grow up. "
Participant of the camp, Claudio Merlonghi said: “We have been here for six days and we have learned a lot in our sessions, we have learned something about identity, character, communication and some traditions in Bosnia and Herzegovina such as religion, song or food. On this way I want to thank to the coaches. "
In conclusion, participant Sabaheta Haskić from Zenica said: "From this camp I will bring many different and unique experiences and memories of my dear friends with whom I had a wonderful time."
Following this, there are many more new activities that Youth for Peace plans to implement with young people in the coming period.
