During the past 6 days, in the period from 7th to 13th August 2022, the third training within the Beyond project was held in Belgrade. The training was on the topic of Identity loss: BEYOND Assimilation, where 15 participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Kosovo, Hungary, and Serbia gathered. The training was organized in cooperation with the partner organization from Serbia, Balkans Let's Get Up! The sessions during the training were facilitated by Ljiljana Šotra, a long-time facilitator of the aforementioned organization, and Emina Frljak, a facilitator from our organization. The training was a combination of interactive workshops, using a participant-oriented approach, and educational visits to religious and cultural institutions. During the workshop part, participants talked with the facilitators about the topics of identity, assimilation, enculturation, and acculturation, as well as understanding the process of integration and inclusion in the new society.
Within the training, participants went on a tour of religious sites and learned about the religious identities that mix in Belgrade, as well as the relationship between majority and minority identities. The visit was followed by a reflection. In addition to visiting religious sites, participants also visited the Museum of Yugoslavia and learned something more about the Yugoslav identity, and through the Scavenger Hunt game, they got to know Kalemegdan and the center of Belgrade. As a part of the evening program on Wednesday 10th August 2022, an intercultural evening was held, during which participants could learn more about the countries which their colleagues come from, but also to try culinary specialties from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Hungary, and Italy.
