On 12th of December 2016, educators from Youth for Peace have visited Prnjavor where they have been with 26 high school students from this town. With the students from Prnjavor they discussed about „Stereotypes and prejudices“. Through short but useful exercises during the workshop educators came to interesting conclusion with these young people.
The idea of this workshop was to show young people that prejudices, stereotypes and discrimination are from our everyday life, mostly because of the lack of dialogue. Furthermore, a larger group could be discriminated because of certain characteristics owned by the members of that group. High school students from Prnjavor who participated in this workshop had the opportunity to get the feeling how to be discriminated and that there is no person who discriminate between us.
The final goal is to raise awareness among youth about stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination, emphasizing not to do that they don’t want to be done to them. These are some of questions which are very present in our society. The discussion educators had with young people is a good way to understand this phenomenon as something very serious. The conclusion is that lack communication is reason of discrimination as consequences of stereotypes and prejudices. And for the end a quote from Seneka: „It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult”.
