The Youth for Peace organization, in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation organized a seminar from 23rd to 25th October 2015 for students of the University of Sarajevo and the University of East Sarajevo.
The seminar entitled "Young people in BiH society: Identity, stereotypes and prejudices" gathered 26 students from both universities. The first part of the seminar was dedicated to interactive workshops on identity, stereotypes and prejudices, where young people, along with Youth for Peace organization’s educators, defined the terms and detected the causes of occurrence of stereotypes and prejudices in our society. The focus of the workshops was on the presentation of their own identities, learning about others and those who are different, and acceptance of the them, in order to achieve better communication ie. dialogue with others.
In the second part of the seminar, the students had the opportunity to hear lectures given by three eminent professors, whose knowledge and experience complemented the theme of the seminar.
The first lecturer Prof Dr Dino Abazović, a professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo, spoke on the topic of ethno-confessional identity. After that, the students heard the lecture given by Prof Dr Zlatiborka Popov Momčinović, professor of philosophy at the University of East Sarajevo, who presented a topic of identity through victimisation. The last topic of "Creating a violent man" was presented by Prof Dr Zorica Maros, a professor at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Sarajevo. After the presentations, students had the opportunity to ask questions related to the subject, and the professors kindly responded to all of them.
The seminar was concluded with an evaluation, where the students agreed that it is important to organize these types of seminars, where young people of different national and religious affiliations gather in one place, get to know and learn about each other, eliminate stereotypes and prejudices and talk about the importance of co-existence with each other.
