Youth for Peace, in cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, organized a seminar on the topic of "Political Education and Peacebuilding". The seminar was held at the Hollywood Hotel in Ilidža from December 4th to 6th, 2020, in the presence of 20 participants from different parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The participants of the seminar were students from the field of social sciences and humanities who are familiar with the topic of political education, but also peacebuilding, and the seminar enabled them to connect these two topics and find a way to use the acquired knowledge in their future professions.
Lecturers at the seminar were doc. dr. Amer Osmić and doc. dr. Sarina Bakić spoke in an interactive and participant-oriented way about political literacy among young people in BiH, the (non) culture of peace that we nurture in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also the ways in which they, as young, promising people can be part of the peacebuilding process in our state. In addition to these two lecturers from the academic milieu, the participants also had the opportunity to listen to journalist Almir Panjeta, who spoke about media tools in political activism. On the last day of the seminar, participants discussed with Youth for Peace facilitators the topic of peacebuilding, but also how politics and political education are related to peacebuilding processes, not only in Bosnia and Herzegovina but in general.
The seminar ended with a written and oral evaluation of the content, topics, and methods of work and the reactions of the participants were extremely positive with comments such as the following:
"You invited professionals and great lecturers. The approach was interesting, serious, and relaxed at the same time. I wish I had heard more about how I can contribute, as an individual, to increasing political literacy in our society”- seminar participant
"Quality and motivating. Lecturers who do not serve mere theory but in an interactive way bring the topic closer and give us push to continue to fight for peace and quality values "- seminar participant
"First of all, I want to praise the organization on a well-organized seminar with a very interesting and one topic that is needed for young people and BiH. I am sorry that this seminar lasts only 3 days and I think that more days should be set aside for this topic "- seminar participant
In its further work, Youth for Peace will dedicate time and space to this topic, because we believe that it is extremely important for the context in which we live, and especially for the young generations who represent the present of this country and who need to work on improving it.
